Many talented photographers and artists fight when the time to move from a hobby to a serious professional activity had actually living. Especially in photography there are so many ways that we continue to like the portrait, advertising, architectural photography, and so on. The one I chose was a career in art and photography to pursue. This is probably not the way to get rich, but it offers a great satisfaction. After looking at the people your work and are willing to spend money to have them on their walls, is an extraordinary achievement.
The problem is that, especially in the digital age where everyone has an inkjet printer on the desktop, it is difficult to see well. It is also important that collectors and art lovers a reason to buy our work. One way to solve this problem is to use traditional methods instead of digital use. Although this section refers to another method, the best and noblest of them is undoubtedly platinum. Platinum and palladium prints show exquisite beauty, the longest continuously from any printing process and are collected widely. People know that the platinum print is to make expensive and are willing to pay more to get them.
Unfortunately, if you are an artist already collected, it is unlikely that you will be able to sell your platinum / palladium prints at a high price or even legal. Many aspiring photographer trying to do their work for as long as possible, with sales at low prices and frequent exhibitions in the hope of care. Due to the high cost of platinum etching is one thing to keep in proper consideration. So one of the most important issues in the context of a complex process to keep costs to a minimum, make a profit, even if you have to sell at low prices. The control of the process is not complicated, it is a long curve on a steep slope. To be successful if plenty of exercise, and thus sales for your work and be paid on all materials must.
Frequent sales at low prices allow you to practice more and thus be able to get to a level of consistency that you keep as few mistakes as possible on your costs are. The low cost allows cost-effective marketing and so on. Do not stay stuck in this magic circle. Higher selling prices eventually follow master the technique and better known.
The first important aspect is of course the quality. Platinum prints should always be made on the gallery and unwavering standards. Upon presentation of a platinum print keep in mind that the audience expects excellence. You need professional and consistent at each stage of the process of recording, print, gout, editing and layout and even the packaging and shipping.
On high-volume also means that you have a consistent way to find your prints, and today it is easy to obtain, by the digital negatives. We need to save time and money, proofs and presumptions should be avoided. The digital negative we can do that.
Print sales decrease average selling prices for a 8×10 “, mounted on museum standards in the range 50 $ 100 $ -. Price Editioning your work, like me, is a good way to sell at a higher price than I normally three. Tier price system increases the contact sold. Of course the low price scenario is most generic of photography such as landscapes. If you want something specific, such as bald or color, you should be able at a higher price from the beginning to sell to.
I mentioned the cost of precious metals. For most printers, a platinum print is often generically an impression of almost pure palladium called. This is not only because of the much lower cost. Compared with platinum, palladium offers many advantages. It is easier to use, provides a better coating, smooth tones, more tonal scale, deeper blacks and a fantastic color. Especially when you are starting the process, I would advise you to print in pure palladium.
It is also true that since most recorders NA2 (chloroplatinate sodium) for the use of contrast seen (albeit in very small amounts), technically, we can not say that the pd are pure palladium prints. Over time, your portfolio probably pd prints 100%, 50/50 Pt-Pd prints and various blends between these quantities. How would you describe your work? I saw some prints to the numbers in pencil on one edge (and sometimes the exposure time and contrast) appears, but since I do not give too much technical information, I offer my impressions, including those in pure palladium, platinum prints with the preamble. Many others I know do the same, without feeling like cheating. Even if you want it just go for palladium, but I recommend keeping a small bottle made of platinum, is not always the greatest heat of pure palladium is desired.
The second element in the process is expensive, of course, paper. It is possible to use a lot of documents – even the modest watercolor paper that is available on the local art shop. In fact, most papers for water colorists only work if you soak them for five minutes in a weak solution of oxalic acid (and then wash it of course). I would recommend but certainly not to save money on paper. The paper I use is called, is, of course, crane, crane platinotype USA (until 2006, now I think is called Crane diploma parchment) and Crane’s Crest Natural White Wove in Europe (at least in England, gfsmith.com). This fine paper is relatively easy to find, it is to coat smooth and easy solution takes less than other papers (saves us money), and it’s not terribly expensive. It is natural, my favorite is available – and white.
Of course, the paper is indeed a personal decision. For example, the providers are likely to recommend Crane’s Kid Finish for beginners. For me, this article seems too thin, harder to use, although not flat, and I would not recommend it. However, I suggest that you are familiar with at least one second document, the document should be the choice (or suddenly) not available. I recommend Arches Platinum, which costs a little more than Crane, but it is harder to find it easier to process, it is also nice and easy (not for the acidification, etc. required). The only difference with the crane (except maybe the show 20% more) is that it is not clear in citric acid, if you need to keep a bit of a camp Kodak and clearing house. What about fancy papers, how expensive Gämpi Japanese, for example. Print on paper can be made by hand very rewarding both aesthetically and financially (my sales have for a while when I grew about the work on the old Gämpi), but I recommend you leave extra difficulties if you are aware.
Once you have mastered the technology and be able to keep your costs under control, you are free to all on the actual burning and in a position to your customers, collectors and galleries offer unusual and unique impressions.
